Boyd Street, Wood Street, and Johnston Street Storm Network Upgrades

October 2019 – November 2019
Client: City of New Westminster
Project Value: 1.2 million

Aplin and Martin as the consulting engineer, Terra was awarded the project by City of New West in the summer of 2019. Despite the tight project schedule to ensure canal capacity was improved before the fall season, Terra was able to complete the entire scope in five days. Terra was also able to resolve the challenges with unexpected soil condition and contamination. The project involved a full road closure shut down and water crossing. Crews were able to complete the work three days less than planned, significantly reducing the impact on traffic interruptions.

Execution of the canal widening involved the use of long reach excavator and protection to adjacent Metro Vancouver water main. General area of this project was also sensitive to vibration/settlement, and special compaction methodology was adopted throughout this project.
