SFU Culvert Replacements

August 2020 – September 2020
Client: Simon Fraser University
Project Value: $950,000

With Parsons as the consulting engineer, Terra was awarded the
project by Simon Fraser University in the summer of 2020. Despite
the environmental sensitive and tight construction schedule,
Terra was able to remove and reinstate 3 new proposed culverts
along University Drive East at SFU within a month. The key
main challenges were installation of 180m of 600/900/1050mm
concrete pipes at maximum depth of approximately 8m on various
grades at three different locations, installations of new headwalls,
maintaining control of erosion and sediment from unpredictable
Burnaby Mountain weather, and more.

Due to the schedule constraints from weather unpredictability,
fisheries window, and start of school year, our team strategized
and planned tasks weeks in advance in order to work long hours
and on weekends on unrestricted days to maximize productivity.
Our project scope also included road and landscape restoration
which was completed quickly and safely as per WorkSafe BC, SFU,
and City guidelines.
