Vancouver Art Gallery

July 2021 – September 2021
Client: City of Vancouver

750 Hornby St, Vancouver, BC

In July 2021, Terra was awarded a contract for civil work at Vancouver Art Gallery in downtown Vancouver. Our scope included removing the existing hardscape, installing a new drainage system, and backfilling and grading the entrance of the Vancouver Art Gallery. As part of our scope, Terra also performed two tie-ins into an existing 400mm storm main that was over 120-year-old.

The existing storm main was located directly underneath an existing water main and required us to excavate 16ft below existing elevations. The watermain was capped and removed at both tie-in locations and a shoring cage was used to facilitate the excavation. Terra was able to save days on the schedule by successfully coring into the 120-year clay pipe, instead or prefabricating fittings to fit the pipe.

Key Highlights:

  • Cored into a 120 yr – 400mm clay storm main to install new lead
  • Roadworks in busy downtown traffic
  • Tie-in at a depth of 16ft deep
